Announcing the 2019 Inductees into the Album Cover Hall of Fame

Chicago, IL – based organization selects the designers, illustrators, photographers, art directors and patrons whose works were released between the years 1960 – Present.

Latest class of honorees in the 6 major categories – as voted on by a world-wide panel of music, art and marketing experts in the area of album cover art & packaging – represents the “who’s who” of creative and production talent, including many recognized names of craftspeople working in the worlds of fine art, graphic design and photography.

Since officially launching the site in 2012, we’ve previously enshrined seven classes of Inductees based on the results from the group’s yearly surveys, with the voting panel considering the creative output of all producers active any time since 1960. Dozens of additional biographies were added for consideration by the esteemed panel of writers, curators of galleries (retail and online) that focus on album cover imagery, art/design museum curators and music marketing experts.

Continuing on via our standard methodology, this year’s Class allowed for the consideration of any talent not previously inducted into the ACHOF six major categories. The people under consideration this year are people who BEGAN their careers in the field at any time during the period the ACHOF focuses its attention on (1960 – present). As you can figure, this was a very long list, but after a research, nominating and voting process that began in September and ended in mid-November with our final vote, the ACHOF Voting Panel has selected a list of individuals and companies that very clearly represent the best examples of a large number of talented men, women and teams who’ve cumulatively created and published a huge portfolio of memorable album cover images and record packages.

The Album Cover Hall of Fame’s Mike Goldstein had this to say about this year’s efforts – “Through the ongoing efforts of those who support of this Hall of Fame, we’re able to recognize the contributions of those who have had a significant impact in the ongoing development and advancement of rock and roll album cover-related art direction, illustration, photography and package design, along with the record labels and musical acts who’ve supported great work in the field. Based on each inductee’s body of work in the field, we feel that their talents have exemplified the best possible efforts made to package and promote their clients’ recorded music, and so we’re privileged to have been able to include them in this year’s poll and, ultimately, our lists of honorees.”

Goldstein added “I’d also like to note that this year’s voting includes package and promo designs for musical acts popular in the “classic rock”, punk, New Wave and Hip-Hop genres, showing fans that album cover imagery continues to be an important part of the relationship between musical acts and their buying/listening public of all ages and musical tastes. I’m happy to say that, while many thought that the album cover had “died” when the music industry moved headfirst into the digital arena, musical acts and their labels continue to invest in the visual aspects of their products and work hard to impress fans with the totality of their creative output.”

Inductees have been divided into their respective categories so that fans can get to know each winner individually and within their group of peers. Below, you’ll find a summary of the winners in each category:

Qualified individuals become eligible for induction 10 years after the publication of their first record album, CD, DVD or digital album cover image. Please note that some names will be seen in more than one category, as it is that certain individuals serve in more than one role in a project.

Going forward, the Voting Panel – currently consisting of over 75 experts in the fields of packaging design, illustration, photography and music product marketing – will continue the process each year (beginning again in late Summer 2020 to nominate the next class of Inductees representing those whose works were published any time during the period of 1960 – present) by selecting nominees in each of the featured categories for consideration by both that voting body and those nominees that receive the most total votes in their respective categories will be inducted. Panel members discussed the possibility of opening some aspect of next year’s voting to the public – we’ll notify fans and the press once any decisions have been made regarding this effort.

Danish Doin’ My Drugs Documentary Star Thomas Buttenschon Performs Concerts, Presents Book and Screens American Documentary in China

Two years ago this January, Danish pop star and TV personality Thomas Machimba Buttenschøn screened American Tyler Q Rosen’s landmark documentary Doin’ My Drugs as a work in progress with a live performance in snowy Park City, Utah to a capacity crowd. Since then, the film made its world premiere at the prestigious documentary festival CPH:DOX*, accompanied by an all-star cast of Zambian musicians who toured Denmark with him after.

Now, this coming week, Buttenschøn and Rosen are on their way to China for a series of concert performances, screenings, readings, public appearances and panels, culminating in a Beijing performance on World AIDS Day, December 1.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing organized this program as part of the HIV Awareness Week in Shanghai and Beijing leading up to World AIDS Day on December 1st. The choice of Buttenschøn — a former judge on the country’s wildly popular Denmark’s got Talent (Danmark Har Talnet) is reflective with his and his family’s personal experience with HIV/AIDS, his renown in the country and the importance of the film Doin’ My Drugs.

Buttenschøn will perform five concerts, beginning November 26th through December 1st, and both Buttenschøn and Rosen will participate in several talks and panels in each city. The concerts will be comprised of songs from Doin’ My Drugs itself. Buttenschøn’s newest song, “Keep on Talking,” will be debuted to the world during these concerts as well. Additionally, Doin’ My Drugs will screen on November 27th at 7:30 PM at the Danish Cultural Centre. The Centre is located on 2 Jiuxianqiao Rd, Chaoyang, Beijing, P.R. China.

The live performances take place as follows:

November 26th –
– Solo concert by Buttenschøn at YYT Livehouse at 8:00 PM (851 Kaixuan Rd, Changning, Shanghai, P.R. China);

November 27th –
– Unplugged performance by Buttenschøn at Danish Cultural Centre at 7:30 PM (2 Jiuxianqiao Rd, Chaoyang, Beijing, P.R. China);

November 29th –
– Concert by Buttenschøn at CloudNine Bar at 8:00 PM (29 Zizhuyuan Rd, Zi Zhu Qiao, Haidian, P.R. China);

November 30th –
– Intimate concert by Buttenschøn at The Danish Cultural Centre, 798 International Arts District, 706 Beiyi Jie, 2 Jiuxianqiao Lu, Chaoyang Qu, Beijing 100025

December 1st –
– Concerts by Danish artists Thomas Buttenschøn and Asbjørn in celebration of World AIDS Day at Post Mountain Art Space at 8:00 PM (North to T8 Building, Dangdai MOMA, No.1 Xiangheyuan Road, Dongcheng District, Beijing)

The documentary film Doin’ My Drugs is the story of musician Thomas Muchimba Buttenschøn—born HIV-positive in 1985—and his crusade to use his music to wipe out AIDS in his native Zambia and beyond. Doin’ My Drugs aims to raise awareness about the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic in Zambia—a country of 17 million people where more than 1.2 million are HIV-positive or have the disease. Zambia’s situation is mirrored throughout the developing world.

A father to two young children, Buttenschøn has kept his HIV in check and his family virus-free, by “doin’ his drugs.” He recognized that his native Zambia remains trapped in a horrific and senseless AIDS crisis. While a significant percentage of the population there is infected with HIV, many antiretroviral drug treatment programs that can keep the virus dormant—“a near-zero viral load” as Buttenschøn says—are widely available through government programs for free.

Buttenschøn has recorded a full studio album in Los Angeles, USA and Lusaka, Zambia with 16-time Grammy®-winning producer, Thom Russo Jr. That album is titled Doin’ My Drugs and will become the official motion picture soundtrack. He’ll be debuting a new single, “Keep On Talking,” on his tour, which will be available in China soon.

Buttenschøn has also set up a foundation, the Muchimba Music Foundation, to help his supporters, collaborators and himself on their journeys. His goal is to test upwards of 100,000 Zambians by expanding his foundation’s Test-for-Ticket concert series into a country-wide tour of Zambia. The Muchimba Music Foundation’s initial concert in Lusaka tested 10,802 people and enrolled those who tested positive into patient care treatment programs. MMF is currently fundraising to meet his goal.

“I’m so pleased to be able to have the support of four countries in my journey,” concludes Buttenschøn. “We’re planning to use this China tour and trip to build momentum for my music and my message worldwide: get tested, get treatment, and do your drugs to keep the disease in check. It’s possible if you only try. Music CAN change the world.” For more information, visit:https://www.doinmydrugs.com https://www.muchimba.org

Grammy Award-Winning Guitarist, Songwriter, and Best-Selling Author Chris Perez to Release New Hot Sau

Chris Perez, husband to the late superstar, Selena, dubbed the ‘Queen of Tejano music,’ will release his custom “Perez Pepper Sauce” starting Saturday, November 16th.

The small-batch sauce will be available online at CaJohns.com and at select locations where Perez will make personal appearances to offer on-site demonstrations to fans and customers.

“My love for spicy food began as a young child when I accidentally ate a Mexican chili pepper,” recalls Chris. “I guess you could say that’s when I had my jalapeno popped,” laughs Perez. A scene from the 1997 biopic “Selena: The Movie” (portrayed by mega-star Jennifer Lopez) showcases Chris’s (played by actor Jon Seda) love for hot sauce, which remains strong to this day.

See clip here: https://youtu.be/OmXqVW7Ux7s

Fast forward to August 2019, and Perez’s passion to create his own hot sauce brand started to become a reality. When he and his long-time friend John Gomez were eating dinner before attending a Dallas Cowboys football game together at AT&T Stadium, Gomez noticed that Perez was carrying chili peppers in his tote bag. That was when an idea was planted. While hanging out on the sidelines prior to the game in the company of legendary players Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith, Gomez casually said, “You should create your own hot sauce, Chris, I can help you. What’s better than football, beer, hot sauce, and chicken wings?” A spontaneous brainstorming session ensued, engaging the minds, talents, and creative energies of the two friends. Soon after, a partnership between Perez and Gomez was formed, called Tongues Ablaze LLC.

John Gomez is a successful talent manager/entrepreneur with twenty-five years’ experience in Entertainment, Music, Sports, and Drama. He’s worked closely with a vast network of key influencers and decision makers and has represented multi-platinum artists of all genres- Grammy winners, Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Hip Hop and Rock legends, Pro Sports Athletes, and artists at various stages in their careers. Knowing how important it is to take potential investors’ personalities and business reputations into consideration when seeking seed money, Gomez reached out to his good friend and business partner, Marc Colombo, to help fund the new hot sauce venture as an angel investor. Colombo is a former American football offensive tackle who played for eleven seasons in the National Football League for the Chicago Bears, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Miami Dolphins. He is the current Offensive Line Head Coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

To produce and bottle “Perez Pepper Sauce”, Gomez and Perez worked with the masters at CaJohns Fiery Foods to develop Perez’s original pepper sauce that will be a delicious blend of premium quality peppers, spices, and ingredients resulting in an exquisite balance of flavor and fire. “Even though ‘Perez Pepper Sauce’ will just be one offering for now, as business expands, the aim for Tongues Ablaze LLC is to be a one-stop shop for different kinds of hot sauces, BBQ sauces, salsas, rubs, and snacks with a distinctive and unique taste,” says Perez. “In the past, there were only a few segments of the society that appreciated and used hot sauces with the same big hot sauce brands cornering the market for years. However, this has changed as hot sauces have now hit the mainstream market with Global market projected to reach a value of US$5.5 Billion in the next 4 years, so for prospective entrepreneurs, there is no better time to come into the market than this time when the industry seems to be on an upward trend,” says Gomez.

“Hot sauce is now considered the sexiest of all condiments, straddling the line between pleasure and pain, and people have increasingly become interested in sampling new sauce taste sensations. I want to hopefully shake things up a bit by offering sauces and products that are ethnic or culturally inspired from various regions such as Mexican and Spanish sauces among others,” Perez adds.

“Chris’s passion for spicy foods and his entrepreneurial spirit is what made me keen to start a salsa company with him in the quest to become a successful hot sauce business. Chris also has a strong Social Media presence with over 800k Facebook followers and 365k Instagram followers. As we all know, Social Media is increasingly more important in today’s marketing world. If you have a solid following on social platforms, it’s proof that people have an interest in you, your relevancy, and how you can carry a brand to the world. I believe Perez is set to be a market influencer and will have a great impact on the market,” says Gomez.

“It’s always been a life-long dream of mine to launch my own hot sauce brand and enter into the fiery foods industry, so I’m very excited to be releasing my signature hot sauce,” says Perez. “For those of you that don’t know, I’m a Leo, so for the logo of my new hot sauce brand I wanted something that was reflective of my personality. I went with a lion’s head surrounded by some peppers ablaze, and appropriately named my sauce ‘Perez Pepper Sauce’. The lion represents the King of the Jungle, and just like Budweiser is the King of Beers, maybe one day ‘Perez Pepper Sauce’ will be the King of Hot Sauce! That’s the dream anyway,” concludes Perez.

Starting Saturday, November 16, 2019 “Perez Pepper Sauce” will be available for purchase online worldwide at CaJohns.com. On the same day, between 2:00pm-5:00pm, Chris Perez will be making a personal appearance at Traders Village, the largest weekend flea market in San Antonio and West Texas. Perez will be selling bottles of his new “Perez Pepper Sauce”, meeting with fans, and signing autographs.

In addition to launching his own hot sauce brand, after a long absence, Chris Perez and his band ‘Chris Perez Project’ will return to the Valley for a ‘One Night Only’ concert. CPP will perform at The Historic Cine El Rey Theater in McAllen, Texas on Dec.14, 2019. Tito’s Homemade Vodka will host this special concert and the first 100 people to buy tickets and come to the show will receive a free bottle of “Perez Pepper Sauce”.

For her first body of work, she has worked with various producers such as David Tickle, AKA Block, and VEE, to mention some, each one mixing in their talents with Alysha’s.
