SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published an article looking at the issues surrounding resource use and the need for greater sustainability and more durable clothing.
It is predicted that by 2050 we will be consuming resources as if we had three planets. This is unsustainable and governments are starting to respond. The European Union aims to be the first carbon neutral continent by 2050, which will require a circular economy. Greater durability in clothing and textiles will contribute greatly to achieving this goal.
SGS’s Consumer Compact article looks at durability on the clothing industry – how it can design and manufacture more durable clothing and the benefits for both the environment and the manufacturer.
