About SGS
We are SGS – the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company. We are recognized as the global benchmark for sustainability, quality and integrity. Our 98,000 employees operate a network of 2,650 offices and laboratories, working together to enable a better, safer and more interconnected world.

January 1st, 2024, the next EU PCN deadline, is almost here and ChemGes has a module to fully automate your notification obligations, whether you are an EU or non-EU entity.

A Comprehensive UFI and PCN Module to Simplify Poison Center Notifications for Companies Operating in the EU

We recognize the challenges posed by the European Union's requirements for Poison Center Notifications (PCNs), which are mandated not only for EU-based enterprises but also for any entities conducting business within the European Union. The regulations necessitate a thorough understanding of the processes related to PCNs and Unique Formula Identifiers (UFIs), often proving to be a complex endeavor for those not yet familiar with the system. All of this has come even more to the forefront with the up- coming January 1st, 2024 deadline for industrial uses.

Understanding the need for an automated, reliable, and efficient solution, we would like to draw attention to the full integration of an UFI and PCN Module as part of our standard software package. This module has been developed in line with the high standards that our clients have come to expect from us, particularly in the context of generating legally compliant documents.

Features of the UFI and PCN Module:

1. UFI Calculator: The built-in UFI calculator allows users to effortlessly generate UFIs for their respective formulae, as per legal  requirements.

2. Automated Dossier Generation: Our software enables one-click dossier generation, available in all EU languages. This feature vastly simplifies the arduous process of manual dossier preparation, saving both time and resources.

3. Server-to-Server (S2S) Integration: For those who prefer to circumvent manual notifications, our module allows for the seamless import of your S2S key. Subsequent to dossier creation, notifications to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) are executed automatically. You will, in turn, receive verification of the notification and a copy of the dossi er for your records.

4. Change Dossier Generation: Regulatory landscapes are continually evolving, and any change in your product portfolio may necessitate an updated dossier. At the click of a button our software generates a change dossier, identifying and appropriately notifying the changes.

Through this module, we aim to empower our clients with an automated, user-friendly interface for navigating the intricate requirements of PCNs in the EU. We trust that this addition to our software package will facilitate your regulatory compliance endeavors, offering a streamlined, all-inclusive solution for UFIs and PCNs.

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 128.23 to help stakeholders understand France’s latest developments affecting signs and markings for sorting products into waste and recycling.

On July 6, 2023, the Supreme Administrative Court, Conseil d’États, of France published its decision relating to the execution of Decree of December 25, 2020, which covered the graphic elements for products in relation to recycling. An image containing two or more arrows rolled up and inscribed in a circle was proposed that unequivocally targeted the ‘green dot’. The decision was required following a request by several French federations in February 2021 to suspend it while its legality was considered. Their decision meant Order of November 2020 was officially cancelled.

The green dot is widely recognized in Europe, although it is prohibited in Spain and not recommended to use in other European countries

SGS has published SafeGuardS 128.23 to give stakeholders a better understanding of the legal moves that have led to the cancellation of Order of November 30, 2020.
