SGS Summarizes Delay to Rhode Island Ban on PFAS in Food Packaging

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS on the further postponement to Rhode Island’s ban on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in food packaging.

Measures to prohibit intentionally added food packaging PFAS were approved in 2022. The ban’s effective date in law was then postponed to July 31, 2024. This latest postponement was mandated by the governor of Rhode Island on June 17, 2024, pushing the effective date of the ban back by six months.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that will impact their ability to operate. SafeGuardS 099.24 provides a useful summary of the latest postponement to Rhode Island’s ban on PFAS in food packaging. In addition, it contains details of a provision to consider a regulated chemical as intentionally added if it is detected in the final packaging or packaging component. The regulated chemical might have been used as a processing agent, mold release agent or intermediate. This will apply from July 1, 2027.

Stakeholders should review the original SafeGuardS 099.24 for more details.

Baton Rouge Based HVAC Company ClimaServ Unveils New Website Emphasizing Excellent in Every Degree

BATON ROUGE, LA - JUNE 26, 2024 - ClimaServ, an HVAC service based in Baton Rouge, LA, has announced that they have launched a new website in their efforts to offer their services to residents of the Baton Rouge, LA, including the surrounding communities:

  • Baker
  • Central
  • Denham Springs
  • Gonzales
  • Hammond
  • Jackson
  • Old Jefferson
  • Port Allen
  • Prairieville
  • Shenandoah
  • Walker
  • Zachary

Zach Schexnider was excited to discuss the website’s launch, which happened in April 2024. “We want to make sure that residents of Baton Rouge and the nearby communities have a go-to service for all of their HVAC needs,” Schexnider said. “If they have a problem, the first thing they do is go on Google and find who can provide them with the best service. We want to be the first thing on their mind when they look for HVAC experts.”

Schexnider also added that ClimaServ’s technicians are all licensed, bonded, and insured - which will give customers peace of mind knowing that their HVAC problem will be fixed with the help of highly trained and skillful experts who have seen and tackled almost every problem. He also says that the website will educate people on topics related to residential and commercial HVAC systems.

“On our site, we have plenty of valuable guides for people to check out,” Schexnider said. “For example, we highly encourage residents of Baton Rouge and others in our coverage area to perform HVAC maintenance on a regular basis. There’s a guide that will show them how to do it step by step. We want them to ensure that their entire system continues to do its job by providing heating and cooling for their homes and businesses.”

Schexnider also said that failing to perform maintenance can lead to costly issues down the road. “Even though repairing HVAC issues is what we do, we can also do maintenance, installation, and replacement. But we believe that maintenance is important so that our customers can save money rather than spend a lot on emergency repair services they didn’t expect to happen at any point,” he said.

Schexinder and the ClimaServ team invite residents and business owners of Baton Rouge to check out their website. Whether it’s questions about a certain service or expert tips on keeping your HVAC system up and running, ClimaServ has the information you need. Please be sure to visit their website at https://climaservac.com/.

SGS Summarizes EC Approval of New Ecodesign Regulation

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS summarizing the European Council’s new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).

The new regulation creates a framework for sustainability standards criteria across a wide range of products sold in the EU. Among its requirements is the implementation of a prohibition on the destruction of unsold textiles and footwear. Superseding the current Ecodesign Directive, (2009/125/EC), the new legislation highlights the EU’s commitment to promoting environmental responsibility and reducing waste, with additional criteria now applicable to a broader range of products.

Product durability, reusability, upgradeability and repairability are addressed in the revised regulation, and it includes a new ‘Digital Product Passport’ to assist informed purchasing decisions. The ESPR will align with the Digital Services Act for products sold online.

The ESPR is expected to be enforced 24 months after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU, following on from the presidents of the European Parliament and Council signing the act into law.

SGS has published original SafeGuardS 094.24 with further details of the ESPR.
