Dina Gu Brumfield Honored in 2021 Indie Book Awards

Unbound, A Tale of Love and Betrayal in Shanghai by Bethesda resident Dina Gu Brumfield has been named one of the best indie books of 2021 by the Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group.

Dina Gu Brumfield’s debut novel is a finalist in the category of First Novel over 90,000 words in the 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.  Dina’s novel stood out for its compelling story telling in the world’s largest book awards program for independent publishers and self-published authors. Unbound is a story of three generations of women who live amid the turmoil of war and political upheaval.  Dina paints a richly textured, turbulent portrait of the city of Shanghai in the twentieth century.

Dina is a native of Shanghai, China, who moved to the United States in 1989. Her novel Unbound is written in English, her second language.  The Indie Book Awards is the largest such award for books written in English language.

The awards will be presented June 25 in an online event which will stream live on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/NextGenerationIndieBookAwards at 7:00 pm (Eastern Time) and 4:00 pm (Pacific Time).

The Next Generation Indie Book Awards are judged by leaders of the indie book publishing industry, including many with long careers at major publishing houses. Their love of a great read and experience in the publishing arena identify books deserving a wider audience.

In an article at CNN.com titled If it’s cool, creative, and different, it’s indie, journalist Catherine Andrews wrote: “The term ‘indie’ traditionally refers to independent art – music, film, literature or anything that fits under the broad banner of culture – created outside of the mainstream and without corporate financing.” That definition remains true for book publishing.

Independent publishers include small presses, larger independent publishers, university presses, e-book publishers, and self-published authors.

According to Catherine Goulet, Founder and Co-Chair of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, “Like other independent artists, many indie book publishers face challenges that the industry giants don't experience. The indies have to work much harder to get their best books into readers’ hands.”

“Authors and publishers who compete in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards are serious about promoting their books,” adds Goulet. “They aim to stand out from the crowd of millions of books in print.”

POP VoIP Offers a True Global Phone System across the World through Strategic Partnerships

The startup sells VoIP systems nationally and internationally!

London – The startup named Pop VoIP has been backed by its parent company – Pop Telecom – and aims to unite business related data with phone calls and create a platform that harnesses the capability that enables home workers, mobile phones and offices act in unison through a single connection. The system offers the gateway to team conversation and overcomes the difficulty of having to send messages to individual members of a team. This feature allows instantaneous communication with team members and all chats are backed-up on the system cloud-based storage.

Low cost communication, made from Pop VoIP platform and virtual integration with CRM tools and commerce solutions has been a key driver in the company’s success. Advanced PBX features increase the retention of call flow. Pop VoIP also boasts a virtual receptionist that allows quick transfer of customers to the right employee and saves the time that would otherwise be required for a manual receptionist to retrieve the concerned message and relay it on paper in person. Acquisition of freephone numbers from multiple countries allows the recruitment of new agents and expansion of the company to become a global provider with beefed up customer support. International calls can be routed anywhere in the specified country thereby expanding customer base without requiring the capital to move or build new offices.

The system uses packet-switched protocols through computer networks and has superseded the need to use cables for calls since data is transmitted via the internet making it easier for users to connect with their loved ones and friends. Monthly broadband solutions are an integral element of Pop VoIP which averts the need to purchase expensive circuit switches from local telephone supply. The signals relayed by the system can be transmitted from any VoIP compatible network. A simple setup with local network allows access to the VoIP system and several beneficial features. VoIP has climbed the ladder in the telecommunications industry in recent years. Features like conference calling, instant messaging, and call recording from a VoIP system and several other VoIP packages to suit small or large businesses and even for personal usage have become the dominant way of accessibility in this modern era.

About Pop VoIP

New Global Health Analysis Reveals Americans have Fewer Food Allergies than Britons, according to Beyond Body Data

A new global health analysis suggests a large number of Americans are allergic to dairy but don’t realize it. The data also shows the British have nearly twice the rate of lactose intolerancethan Americans, Australians and the French.

The health data was compiled by the new wellness book, Beyond Body, which integrates health analytics to create a personalized wellness plan based on the reader’s health and allergies. The analytics are derived from 28 personalized questions readers answer for the book’s research.

The data involved more than 1.6 million people across the UK, US, France and Australia. It included 1.2 million Americans, 287,154 French, 84,414 Britons and 67,819 Australians.

Nutritionist and author, Christine Zalnieraite, says this data is helping people around the globe manage their allergies and lactose intolerance by giving them a personalized nutrition and fitness regimen based on their health conditions.

“This data suggests there are a lot more people suffering from lactose intolerance but they don’t realize it,” said Zalnierate. “Research suggests that roughly 36 percent of Americans have an allergy to dairy, so if only 4 percent say they experience it, this tells us that many people are suffering from lactose intolerance but aren’t doing anything to treat it.”

Lactose intolerance is a condition that prevents people from properly digesting lactose in dairy. It can lead to symptoms that include: Stomach pain, abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, nausea and vomiting.

The Beyond Body health analysis found that 8 percent of Britons say they are lactose intolerant, compared to 4 percent for Americans, Australians, and French.

“There is no one-size-fits-all guidebook to wellness, and each body works differently,” said  Zalnierate. “Our analytics are very detailed, allowing us to create meal plans around allergies, intolerances, and even food preferences, making it easier for people to follow a personalized health regimen.”

Food Intolerances Across the US, UK, Australia and France

The data analysis also found Americans and Australians have the highest percentage of nut allergies.

Roughly 25 percent of respondents in the US and Australia said they have some form of nut allergies, which is drastically more than public research suggests. Roughly 3 million Americans are believed to have nut allergies or 1.1 percent of the population.

Zalnierate said it’s very likely people are confusing nut allergies with another allergy and not realizing it.

“It’s so important to understand how our nutrition and what we eat impacts our body,” said Zalnierate. “This is where our analytics is truly revolutionizing the wellness industry. Never before have we integrated such personal analytics into a book. When people feel better with a nutrition or health plan, they’re more likely to stick to it.”

The data also found that 12 percent of French respondents and 15 percent of Britons say they have a nut allergy.

Beyond Body creates meal plans and recipes based on the personal analytics that are discovered during each reader’s assessment. For readers who are lactose intolerant or have food allergies, it includes recipes and meal plans designed around their allergies.

About Beyond Body

Beyond Body takes analytics from a reader's profile and creates a customized wellness plan for their overall health and desired body needs and body goals. It's the first hardcover book to integrate analytics into a customized wellness plan based on the reader's physical and mental health as well as their current conditions and health history.

Infosec Collaborates with CISA to Provide Free Tools to Help Organizations Fight Ransomware Attacks

CISA Ransomware Guide and Webinar to Help Address Growing Attack Vector

MADISON, WI, June 15, 2021 — Following several notable ransomware incidents in 2021, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the nation’s risk advisor dedicated to building the national capacity to defend against cyberattacks, and Infosec, the leading cybersecurity education company, are sharing no-cost resources to help businesses keep their organization secure.

Now more than ever, ransomware is a key challenge for organizations of all sizes, with 10% of all data breaches involving ransomware according to the Verizon Business 2021 Data Breach Investigations Report. The growing number of ransomware attacks has also brought a rise in payments and damages that can be detrimental to organizations and their clients. In 2020 alone, the average ransom paid for organizations increased from $115,123 in 2019 to $312,493 in 2020, a 171% year-over-year increase.

With an exponential increase of ransomware attacks in the past five years, these attacks and degree of damages show no signs of slowing. To address the growing need for cybersecurity training and ransomware response resources, CISA has published a free Ransomware Guide and collaborated with Infosec Institute to host a webinar on available resources and tactics.

“Education is one of the most powerful weapons against ransomware. CISA knows that not everyone has the same resources to prevent and fight ransomware threats, which is why we’ve made it our mission to make these tools widely available and accessible to help organizations stay a step ahead,” said Amy Nicewick, section chief of communication management at CISA.

In a free session on June 24, Amy Nicewick will join David Stern, CISA SLTT partnership lead, to cover topics including the state of the ransomware threatscape, best practices in ransomware prevention and free tools and resources available to help organizations reduce their risk.

“The recent series of high-profile ransomware attacks presents the opportunity to have more conversations about what organizations and their employees can do to help prevent these types of attacks. These attacks also show that cybercriminals will target any type of organization if they deem it profitable,” said Jack Koziol, CEO and founder at Infosec. “The good news is that cybersecurity training and education goes a long way when it comes to preventing these types of attacks and protecting your organization’s data. We’re excited to team up with CISA to provide free tools to organizations and build awareness around cybersecurity.”

Infosec is also offering a number of free cybersecurity awareness training resources to help educate employees about risks and keep cybersecurity top of mind. From a wild west malware adventure to marine-life phishing education series, the free tools offer an engaging suite of education materials for organizations to leverage on the path towards inspiring secure employee behaviors.

To learn more about what free resources your organization can leverage to fight ransomware, attend the CISA and Infosec free webinar on June 24 at 11:00 a.m. CST. Click here to register.
