Andean Community Delays Enforcement of New Labeling Regulations for Footwear and Leather Goods

The General Secretariat of the Andean Community, a customs union comprising Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, has announced a delay to the enforcement of Resolution No. 2107 “Andean Technical Regulation for the Labelling of Footwear, Leather Goods, Travel and Similar Items.”

Originally passed in November 2019, it was planned that the technical regulation would be enforced twelve months after it was published in the Official Gazette of the Cartagena Agreement. The COVID-19 pandemic has, however, made it necessary to amend this date and, following Andean Community Decision 827, the new enforcement date is now November 15, 2021.

Andean Technical Regulation No. 2107 covers the requirements concerning the presentation of labelling information for:

  • Footwear
  • Leather goods
  • Travel items and similar goods

It also covers safety conditions and has the objective of prevent misleading practices.

Labels must contain, as a minimum, the following information:

  • Predominant materials that make up the product
  • Manufacturer or Importer identification
  • Size (footwear only)
  • Country of origin or manufacture

This information may be presented on one or more label, which must be indelible, legible, visible and easily accessible to the consumer. The information must be presented in Spanish, although additional languages, expressions, abbreviations, symbols or pictograms may be used.

Realistic 3D Architectural Model Makers and Creators in India

Architects, builders, and construction consultants face several challenges to present their design ideas to investors and stakeholders. Their exceptional design ideas are difficult to communicate with people using 2D paper designs. The introduction of 3D printing in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry paved a way for architects and builders to showcase their concept design ideas in realistic 3D architectural scale models.

iKix 3D Prints is one of the top 3D architectural scale model makers and creators in India with over 200+ biggest AEC brands as their loyal customers. Their primary aim is to help Architects, builders, and construction consultants to showcase their project design in real-life physical scale models. With over 15+ years of experience in model making service, they have created more than 1000+ scale and acrylic models using SLS/SLA 3D printing and CNC laser cut technology.

iKix 3D and Acrylic Scale Model Services:

1. Residential and Commercial Building Scale Models

With the increase in urbanization, real estate brands and builders are tasked to develop creative property designs to cater to large people and vehicles. 2D paper drawings make architects difficult to communicate their developed design concepts to customers and developers. iKix helps architects to see their developed designs in real-life 3D printed architectural scale models with vibrant colors, landscape elements, and aesthetics. This allows architects to resolve any flaws in the design before the actual construction. Real estate brands and builders can use these 3D printed scale models to enhance their brand visibility by displaying upcoming projects with customers.

2. Bridge and Civil Infrastructure Scale Models

Civil engineering projects encompass complex structures and components, which makes architects impossible to communicate the design aspects using 2D paper drawings. iKix bridge and civil infrastructure scale models help AEC industry clients to propose their designs with three-dimensional real-life physical models with component installations and landscape elements. Investors, bankers, or stakeholders can easily understand the project design with visually presented 3D scale models.

3. Industrial Plant and Factory Working Prototype Models

The industrial power plant, factory, and warehouses have several technical design structures and sprawling land areas containing several departments. It is difficult for construction consultants to explain their developed project design using 2D engineering drawings. iKix industrial plant and factory working prototype models allow construction brands to showcase and present their project ideas with realistic miniature mock-up models.

4. Concept and Interior Design Models

Architects are developing creative design ideas customized to satisfy their clients, but they face several design flaws during the deployment of the plan. iKix helps architects to analyze and measure their developed plan using the real-life concept and interior design mock-up models with three-dimensional cross-sectional views.

Benefits of iKix 3D Architectural Models

  • Cuts misinterpretation, and enable clarity in design communication
  • Enables quick decision making
  • Enables Project Managers and Contractors to discuss the 3D Prints
  • Enables project completion on time

Thirty Eighth Avenue Photography Transforms Winners of Ugly LinkedIn Profile Photo Contest

Plymouth, MA, December 23, 2020 -- Looking like your better self on LinkedIn is possible. And necessary. Winners of the recent "Ugly LinkedIn Profile Photo" contest agree. Brian MacFee of Systems Support, Inc. based in Marshfield; Attorney Susan Pieri of Marshfield and Rich Archibald of AFLAC and located in Pembroke are now looking great. See for yourself on LinkedIn.

Brian MacFee commented, “I’m not vain, but I am concerned with my appearance and conveying that I am open, friendly and approachable. The new photo conveys that in a glance.”

Susan Pieri added, “I came to the photoshoot with three outfit variations, ready to have fun. Debi did not disappoint! She has an artist's eye and a friendly manner.  The time flew by. Now I have three wonderful shots to choose from to replace the one currently on LinkedIn.   Although, on one of them I'm told I look too happy for a lawyer.”

Rich Archibald noted, “The difference between my old photo and the new, improved one are night and day. I look more vibrant, professional and ready to go.”

According to the champion of the photo contest Debi Cramer, founder and principal photographer at https://www.38thavenuephotography.com/ in Plymouth, MA, “Let’s literally face it. Most people form an immediate impression of you by your headshot. A corporate portrait that is outdated, odd or just omitted is an unnecessary turnoff.”

Some executives favor their high school yearbook likeness. Others just choose to ignore the aging process. Either way, an outdated profile photo is not the best way to represent yourself on LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network.

Debi Cramer advises, “A LinkedIn profile photo is also not the best place to show off a cherished boat, sports car or pet. It’s okay to wear ski goggles if you’re a ski resort owner, but not okay if you’re a ski enthusiast and your profession is selling life insurance. It should be noted that NOT having a profile photo doesn’t work in your favor either. Will fellow networkers and recruiters want to connect? Perhaps not. Those who do have a profile photo on LinkedIn may receive up to 21 times more profile views than those lacking profile photos (according to https://www.linkedin.com/).”

New York State Prohibits PFAS Substances in Plant Fiber Based Food Packaging

New York State has signed into law a prohibition on adding perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS substances) to some food packaging materials and articles.

The governor signed into law S8817 (companion A4739-C) on December 2, 2020. It amends the state’s Environmental Conservation Law and adds new § 37-0209 to prohibit PFAS substances in food packaging. The scope of the law covers food packaging made, predominantly, from paper, paperboard or other materials derived from plant fibers.

Definitions within the law include:

  • ‘Food Packaging’ – package or packaging component that is intended for direct food contact and is mainly comprised of paper, paperboard, or other materials originally derived from plant fibers
  • ‘PFAS substances’ – means ‘perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances’, a class of fluorinated organic chemicals containing at least one fully fluorinated carbon atom
  • ‘Intentionally added’ chemical – means a chemical in a product that serves an intended function in the product component

PFAS substances are added to a wide variety of products to provide anti-stain, water, grease, oil and/or dirt repelling properties. In the context of food contact materials, they are known to be included in products such as fast-food containers, microwave popcorn bags, non-stick cookware, and paper wrappers for sandwiches and butter.

The new law will come into effect on December 31, 2022.
