The Bloomberg terminal provides real-time data, news and analytics for financial professionals.Going from strength to strength in matters of development and adoption, the DeFi segment emerged as the most dynamic and promising sector in the blockchain universe. DeFi offers new opportunities for individuals, developers, and institutions to operate in a transparent, open, and vibrant new financial environment. DeFi’s redesigned financial products such as loans, derivatives, and financial contracts bring greater liquidity to the main crypto market.Although the DeFi industry has experienced significant growth, most of it is made up of crypto evangelists; institutional money has not found a foothold in this nascent segment yet. In fact, several popular DeFi projects are focused on individuals and represent uncharted waters for institutions. CrescoFin is drawing traditional investors' attention to DeFi’s potential, leveraging the need for safety and yield.CrescoFin’s fully insured decentralized deposit account is a DeFi solution with tangible, real-world benefits. The product was designed to tap crypto liquidity providers and offer institutions a route to DeFi, globally. The founders of CrescoFin created the solution for themselves as an alternative to the increasingly lower interest rates on cash deposits.Robert Sharratt, co-founder of CrescoFin, believes that for blockchain to replace core banking you need to neutralize banks’ psychological advantage: insurance.

“Finance is about risk and return. We equate having ‘money in the bank’ with being risk-free, even if it is not quite true. To be comparable to a bank account, the risk needs to be the same or less. To be a compelling alternative the returns need to be higher. DeFi mass adoption needs the creation of a fully decentralized deposit account that offers a secure, insured yield. That's exactly our path.”

DataMesh Group Technology Enables Native Least Cost Routing on Payment Terminals

DataMesh Group deploying its payment technology to enable automatic least cost routing to eftpos’ Australian debit payment system. The Company sees $500 million per annum reduction in transaction fees for Australian merchants when fully implemented.

Sydney, Australia, October 6, 2020 -- Australian financial payment systems and software solutions provider, DataMesh Group (‘DataMesh’ or ‘the Company’) is pleased to announce it has developed a unique capability to automatically apply least cost routing (LCR) technology within Australia’s debit card payment system for its customers.

LCR allows for the best economic outcome for merchants on contactless (tap-and-go) debit card payments by sending them through the debit network that costs the least to accept. It enables a debit payment to be uniquely "flagged" as a specific debit card transaction and sent to the lowest cost debit network, resulting in the lowest cost fee structure for the merchant.

Without LCR, the transaction is sent to the default debit network programmed on the customer’s card, which may not be the lowest cost debit network, resulting in higher transaction costs for merchants.
Merchants will use DataMesh’s ground-breaking software to enable automatic selection of LCR for debit transactions, resulting in lower costs for merchants by routing through eftpos.

DataMesh’s software can read the card/phone/watch, decipher whether it’s a debit or credit payment and attach the relevant message to the transaction before it’s sent to eftpos via the acquirer (potentially any bank), which has awarded the transaction the applicable fee structure. Merchants are then charged the lowest payment fees on debit transactions.

The Sydney-based fintech is among the first companies to have found a way to automatically select LCR on a tap-and-go debit payment.

DataMesh’s software can be uploaded on existing hardware terminals, negating the need for merchant acquirers to buy new terminals, nor requirements for action by merchants or cardholders.

eftpos, the Australian Retailers Association (ARA), and retailers have been pushing for LCR, with the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) saying it will consider regulation if it’s not made widely available to merchants.

Currently, debit cards represent around 70 percent of all card transactions in Australia, so DataMesh LCR technology translates into significant transaction cost savings for merchants.

DataMesh Group CEO Mark Nagy said:
“The unique least cost routing capability developed by DataMesh is a massive win for Australian merchants, especially in this era of contactless payments.

“eftpos’ debit card network accounted for more than two billion cheque and savings transactions in 2019 worth around $130 billion. DataMesh is working with eftpos and other payments industry members in the push for least cost routing, and to bring down fees for merchants in what is a very challenging environment for retailers and consumers.

“Conservative estimates suggest a potential reduction in fees for merchants of up to $500 million dollars nationally per year if LCR was fully implemented.

“DataMesh LCR software is compatible with many legacy merchant terminals and most acquirers. We estimate more than half of card terminals in Australia are currently unable to fully support LCR, so our technology provides an effective solution and removes the need for acquirers to undertake costly hardware upgrades.”

DataMesh is focused on vastly improving and modernising merchants’ outdated backbone payment systems. It has developed solutions that not only fix current payment system issues for merchants but can increase their business efficiency through new and improved integrated technology.

Last month, the Company announced it had signed a major long-term agreement with national retail giant Peregrine Corporation under which DataMesh has become the company’s sole payments provider.

Peregrine is using DataMesh’s LCR capability through its acquirer to effect significant payment cost savings to its business, which had a reported annual turnover of $2.2 billion last year.

DataMesh’s software is fully developed in Australia, with all IP owned by DataMesh. DataMesh is Australian owned, and its technology is Australian built and operated.

DataMesh operates under PCI Standards Council and the Australian Payments Network regulations. DataMesh’s switching platform is EMV and PCI-DSS Level 1 certified for Card Present (CP) and Card Not Present (CNP) transactions.

Rare Unusual Mosaic Tabletop Tile by Roy LichtensteinBrings 36900 USD at Neue Auctions

Beachwood, Ohio, USA, October 6, 2020 -- A rare and unusual mosaic tabletop tile by Roy Lichtenstein climbed to $36,900, a circa 1910 Roycroft Ali Baba bench knocked down for $17,220 and a stunning 17th century English, Netherlands or Spanish School oil portrait of a Royal or Court Lady garnered $14,760 in an online-only Fine Art & Antiques auction held September 26th by Neue Auctions.

The auction featured traditional art and antiques, silver, jewelry, decorations and furnishings, pulled from prominent local estates and collections. Downsizing households presented some great opportunities for both new and established collectors. Internet bidding was provided by Liveauctioneers.com, Invaluable.com and Bidsquare.com. Phone and absentee bids were taken.

The mosaic tile by Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923-1997) was executed by the artist in 1950 and was the sale’s top lot. Hand-set, unsigned and framed in walnut, the 14 ½ inch by 16 ¼ inch tile was not attached to a table base. It’s listed in Lichtenstein’s catalog raisonne and came out of a private collection in Cleveland, having been acquired by the consignor directly from the artist.

The early 20th century Roycroft Ali Baba bench featured a plank seat retaining bark to the underside and was presented on a trestle-style base joined by a mortise and tenon jointed stretcher. It had the Roycroft orb and cross on the leg. Roycroft was a reformist community of craft workers and artists that formed part of the Arts and Crafts movement in the United States.

The 17th century oil canvas laid on panel portrait of a Royal or Court Lady was unsigned and unframed, with a panel size of 27 inches by 22 inches. The painting had some in-painting to the face and lace ruff, plus some minor filling to craquelure, but that didn’t deter eager bidders who were dazzled by the sitter’s visage and the chance to own an antique artwork from the 1600s.

Following are additional highlights from the auction. Prices include a 23 percent buyer’s premium.

Paintings by noted, listed artists dominated the list of top lots. An oil on canvas signed and dated (1858) by the British artist James Webb (1825-1895), titled Thunder Clouds and impressive at 33 inches by 58 inches, brought $9,225; while an oil on artist’s board by Sergei Missan (Russian, 1926-1973), titled Still Life of Flowers, inscribed verso and framed, changed hands for $3,998.

An oil on canvas Still Life with Crystal Globe and Flowers, rendered in 1925 by the Cleveland School artist Clara Deike (1881-1964), one of three works by the artist in the auction, finished at $2,460. Also, a lithograph by Missouri artist Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975) titled Morning Train, a heart-wrenching image of a soldier heading off to war, artist signed, fetched $2,337.

Three works by the French painter Jules Cavailles (1901-1997) made up a colorful section of the sale in the form of happy still lifes. One, titled Still Life with Vase of Flowers and Mask on Table (1935), realized $2,214. Also, an oil on canvas depiction of Venice Canal with Gondola by the French artist Joseph Antoine Bouvard (1840-1920), signed lower right and framed, hit $3,198.

A circa 1880 Regina upright automatic disc box, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with 20 15 ½ inch discs, in fine playing condition and housed in a cabinet that had been beautifully restored and refinished, rose to $9,225. Also, a fine Tabriz carpet, 13 feet 2 inches by 10 feet, made from blended silk and wool on cotton weft in the Sheikh Safi design with a floral medallion, gaveled for $2,829.

An assembled Art Nouveau bedroom suite attributed to Eugene Vallin, including a bed frame, large armoire, side table and chair, carved with leaves, buds and tendrils, last sold at Sotheby’s in London in 1996, went for $9,225; while a circa 1880 English George III inlaid mahogany linen press, 81 ½ inches tall and raised on bracket feet, rectangular form in two parts, made $2,829.

A Tuttle sterling silver flatware service in the Onslow pattern, with marks for four presidents (Ford, Carter, Nixon and Johnson), weighing a total 157.37 troy ounces, sold for $2,583. Also, a Bisbee Mountain turquoise squash blossom necklace, unsigned, about 15 inches long, boasting shaped and polished natural turquoise stones, bezel set into silver flower blossoms, hit $2,337.

Neue Auctions has three more auctions planned for the balance of 2020. The first will be a single-owner collection of lovely Art Deco pieces, titled Erte and Icart. After that is an auction titled Coach Me If You Can, a timed sale of over 100 lots of “new with tags” Coach bags and accessories. And finally, A Brave Neue World sale will be held in December (or in early 2021).
