Rare Unusual Mosaic Tabletop Tile by Roy LichtensteinBrings 36900 USD at Neue Auctions

Beachwood, Ohio, USA, October 6, 2020 -- A rare and unusual mosaic tabletop tile by Roy Lichtenstein climbed to $36,900, a circa 1910 Roycroft Ali Baba bench knocked down for $17,220 and a stunning 17th century English, Netherlands or Spanish School oil portrait of a Royal or Court Lady garnered $14,760 in an online-only Fine Art & Antiques auction held September 26th by Neue Auctions.

The auction featured traditional art and antiques, silver, jewelry, decorations and furnishings, pulled from prominent local estates and collections. Downsizing households presented some great opportunities for both new and established collectors. Internet bidding was provided by Liveauctioneers.com, Invaluable.com and Bidsquare.com. Phone and absentee bids were taken.

The mosaic tile by Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923-1997) was executed by the artist in 1950 and was the sale’s top lot. Hand-set, unsigned and framed in walnut, the 14 ½ inch by 16 ¼ inch tile was not attached to a table base. It’s listed in Lichtenstein’s catalog raisonne and came out of a private collection in Cleveland, having been acquired by the consignor directly from the artist.

The early 20th century Roycroft Ali Baba bench featured a plank seat retaining bark to the underside and was presented on a trestle-style base joined by a mortise and tenon jointed stretcher. It had the Roycroft orb and cross on the leg. Roycroft was a reformist community of craft workers and artists that formed part of the Arts and Crafts movement in the United States.

The 17th century oil canvas laid on panel portrait of a Royal or Court Lady was unsigned and unframed, with a panel size of 27 inches by 22 inches. The painting had some in-painting to the face and lace ruff, plus some minor filling to craquelure, but that didn’t deter eager bidders who were dazzled by the sitter’s visage and the chance to own an antique artwork from the 1600s.

Following are additional highlights from the auction. Prices include a 23 percent buyer’s premium.

Paintings by noted, listed artists dominated the list of top lots. An oil on canvas signed and dated (1858) by the British artist James Webb (1825-1895), titled Thunder Clouds and impressive at 33 inches by 58 inches, brought $9,225; while an oil on artist’s board by Sergei Missan (Russian, 1926-1973), titled Still Life of Flowers, inscribed verso and framed, changed hands for $3,998.

An oil on canvas Still Life with Crystal Globe and Flowers, rendered in 1925 by the Cleveland School artist Clara Deike (1881-1964), one of three works by the artist in the auction, finished at $2,460. Also, a lithograph by Missouri artist Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975) titled Morning Train, a heart-wrenching image of a soldier heading off to war, artist signed, fetched $2,337.

Three works by the French painter Jules Cavailles (1901-1997) made up a colorful section of the sale in the form of happy still lifes. One, titled Still Life with Vase of Flowers and Mask on Table (1935), realized $2,214. Also, an oil on canvas depiction of Venice Canal with Gondola by the French artist Joseph Antoine Bouvard (1840-1920), signed lower right and framed, hit $3,198.

A circa 1880 Regina upright automatic disc box, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with 20 15 ½ inch discs, in fine playing condition and housed in a cabinet that had been beautifully restored and refinished, rose to $9,225. Also, a fine Tabriz carpet, 13 feet 2 inches by 10 feet, made from blended silk and wool on cotton weft in the Sheikh Safi design with a floral medallion, gaveled for $2,829.

An assembled Art Nouveau bedroom suite attributed to Eugene Vallin, including a bed frame, large armoire, side table and chair, carved with leaves, buds and tendrils, last sold at Sotheby’s in London in 1996, went for $9,225; while a circa 1880 English George III inlaid mahogany linen press, 81 ½ inches tall and raised on bracket feet, rectangular form in two parts, made $2,829.

A Tuttle sterling silver flatware service in the Onslow pattern, with marks for four presidents (Ford, Carter, Nixon and Johnson), weighing a total 157.37 troy ounces, sold for $2,583. Also, a Bisbee Mountain turquoise squash blossom necklace, unsigned, about 15 inches long, boasting shaped and polished natural turquoise stones, bezel set into silver flower blossoms, hit $2,337.

Neue Auctions has three more auctions planned for the balance of 2020. The first will be a single-owner collection of lovely Art Deco pieces, titled Erte and Icart. After that is an auction titled Coach Me If You Can, a timed sale of over 100 lots of “new with tags” Coach bags and accessories. And finally, A Brave Neue World sale will be held in December (or in early 2021).

Ukraine Seeks Closer Alignment with EU Toy Safety Regulations

Ukraine has published a draft resolution that, if accepted, will bring its toy safety legislation into closer alignment with the European Union’s Directive 2009/48/EC, the so-called European Toy Safety Directive (TSD).

The draft resolution – Draft Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine On Amendments to the Technical Regulations for Toy Safety – was published by the Ukrainian Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture on September 15, 2020. Among several important changes, it aims to:

  • Strengthen the migration of aluminum 2.5-fold for all three categories of toy materials. The proposed migration limits are:
    1. Category I – 2,250 mg/kg
    2. Category II – 560 mg/kg
    3. Category III – 28,130 mg/kg
  • Strengthen the migration of chromium (VI) by approximately 4-fold for category III toy materials – to 0.053 mg/kg
  • Add three levels of requirement for formaldehyde (migration, emission and content) in toys for children under 36 months or in other toys intended to be placed in the mouth:
    1. Formaldehyde migration in polymeric materials – no more than 1.5 mg/l
    2. Formaldehyde emission in resin-bonded wood – no more than 0.1 ml/m³
    3. Formaldehyde content in each of textile, leather and paper materials – no more than 30 mg/kg
    4. Formaldehyde content in water-based toys – no more than 10 mg/kg

The three categories of toy material are:

  • Category I – dry, brittle, powder-like or pliable (e.g. chalk, bouncing putties, crayons, plasticine)
  • Category II – liquid or sticky toys (e.g. bubble solutions, finger paints, slimes)
  • Category III – scraped-off (e.g. ceramics, textiles, wood, bone, leather, polymers, elastomers)

Ukraine originally approved its ‘Technical Regulations on the Safety of Toys’ in 2018. If accepted, the draft proposal will come into effect six months after it is published in Ukraine’s Official Journal.

World Student Innovation Summit WSIS kicks off innovation programme for global student community

October 6, 2020: The first edition of World Student Innovation Summit (WSIS launched a global innovation programme for the student’s community on 2nd October. A student-led platform for innovation, the WSIS is the brainchild of Master Aditya Pachpande and first initiative of NextGen Innov8 in association with ASMA (Adoption of Social Media in Academia). The Launch Chapter of WSIS brought together eminent personalities from across the world. The summit was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Education, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India Mr. Sanjay Dhotre, and Chairman of AICTE Dr. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe.

The WSIS saw participation from several countries including USA, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Austria, Malaysia, South Africa and India. The participating stakeholders were from business, industries, education-tech, start-ups, investors, incubators, educators, school and higher education institutions, as well as education administrators. The day-long event had six sessions on Innovation at Schools, Innovation at Higher Education, Innovation & CSR by Corporates, and an Inaugural and Valedictorian sessions.

In his congratulatory message, Mr. Sanjay Dhotre, Minister of State for Education, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India, said, “The ministry of Education has underlined the importance of both nation and innovation in the New Education Policy. I am very happy to see global programs like WSIS 2020 being initiated by young students from India. Like the great mahatma said, you should be the change you want to see in the world. The Ministry of Education is happy to support the World Student Innovation Summit and its mission of donating 15.1k COVID-19 Suraksha Boxes to needy families and schools on the event of Gandhiji’s 151st birthday. All the best to all of you.”

“I’m particularly happy to note that in line with the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and his call for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, young Aditya has created an innovative solution DIY UVC sterilisation kit called the Suraksha Box to tackle the pandemic. Delighted to note that Aditya’s innovation has got a Govt. of India (MC&I) patent published and the Suraksha box is approved and recommended certification by CSIR-CMERI of India,” added Mr. Dhotre.

Dr. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of AICTE while addressing said, “We have had a system where everything from KG to PG is about rote-learning. We need analytical and critical thinking and that’s what the NEP does. It is the right way to go for young Indians. I am glad to say that AICTE has been doing this for past three years. We have had workshops to find out how to devise a question paper that provokes thinking. We need our students to ask questions. And if we don’t know an answer, we should not wiggle out of it but accept and learn ourselves.”

“The growth of COVID has been challenging not only in our country but entire globe. Therefore, any product that will help us come out of that will be really helpful and Aditya has rightly applied his knowledge earned from school and outside to make his Suraksha Box using UV-C rays”, he added.

The first of its kind platform for students, the WSIS seeks to create an innovation movement among the global students’ community. The event announced the launch of multiple programmes for schools and higher educational institutions, including ‘Innovation Councils’, ‘Innovation Ambassadors’ and Incubators. The WSIS plans to reach several million students across schools and colleges from India and abroad. The second edition of WSIS will be held in December 2020 on_____.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ramanathan Ramanan, Director of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog said, “India is being led by its young innovators. The youngsters of today have the option of leveraging technology to get ahead of their times and they should not loose out on this.

Said Mr. Sandeep Pachpande, Co-convenor of WSIS and director in NextgenInnov8, “Innovation temperament has to be inculcated at an early age. Our systems are adept at imparting academics but fall short on preparing students for innovation. India’s contribution to global patents and intellectual property rights are an indication of that. The WSIS aims to create a global movement focused on inculcating innovation at the school levels by introducing specific innovation activities and curriculum.”

WSIS also showcased the latest innovation of 14-year-old Aditya Pachpande’s ‘Covid-19 Suraksha Kit’, a do-it-yourself UVC sterilisation box that kills bacteria, fungi and viruses, including covid-19. An example of innovation at early age, Aditya’s invention kills microbes without using harmful chemicals like alcohol and detergents. The box instead uses Ultra Violet C rays to kill covid-19 virus and other microbes, and is useful in sterilising day-to-day groceries, foods and eatables, and items like key chains and wallets.

Aditya Pachpande is the young CEO of newly launched Nextgen Innov8, a company dedicated to promoting innovation, and the organiser of WSIS. “We have a mission to donate and install for free 15,100 COVID19 Suraksha Kits to needy underprivileged households, at schools and colleges and at vegetable markets. I’m also appealing to people to consider gifting the Suraksha Kit as festival gifts for their relatives, employees and customers. In these difficult times, this would be an apt homage to Gandhiji on his 151st birth anniversary,” said Aditya.

Mr. Giri Balasubramaniam of Greycaps, affectionately called Pickbrain and also Governing Board member of NextGen Innov8 advised the young entrepreneurs to stay humble and focused to succeed. He also added, “The best way to innovate is to ‘voluntarily kill your past’. Everything today is challenging its own self. I would advise youngsters that best way to innovate is to be your own competitor and keep creating the next before you have to.”

The WSIS platform brought educational institutes together with corporates and industries to enable better understanding of the market requirements. The event saw eminent speakers from around the world including Mr. Dorsamy Pillay, Deputy Chief Executive Officer- RISA of NRF, South Africa, Mr. Chun Chee Tan, COO, Willowgien MSC, Malaysia, Ms. Margherita Mori, University of L'Aquila, Italy, Mr. Ramachandran Gopalakrishnan of InnoServ Group, Dr. Francisco Velez- College of Business and Management, CETYS, Mexico, Ms. Anna Opalka, University of Applied Sciences NYSA, Poland, Mr. and Mr. Apurva Chamaria of RateGain, among others.

BTI Launches Senior Living Division

Hanover, MA, Oct 06, 2020 -- Brookline Transportation, Inc. (BTI), a Mayflower Van Lines agent specializing in commercial, lab, medical, science and residential moves, recently added a senior living division to its arsenal of residential and commercial moving offerings. The new division will have staff and resources specific to moving seniors.

“Senior relocating covers a lot of turf. Some could be downsizing. Others might be purchasing a second home. The level of participation the senior will have vary. Some may need more help than others—packing, storage, etc.—to complete their move,” said George Rohlfing, owner of the family-owned and operated Brookline Transportation, Inc (BTI). “There’s also some intangibles for seniors, particularly those going from a larger, single-family to a townhouse, 55-plus community or assisted living locations.”

For families helping their senior move, there’s also the dissemination and shipping of goods to multiple locations.

BTI move managers can help seniors prepare for the move by offering professional organizing and packing services. This can include making recommendations of items that could make the trip to the new home or might be better served being sold, donated or recycled.

BTI also offers white glove assistance as seniors move into their new space. This can include moving furniture to an approved floor plan or layout, hanging photos, and working with our third party companies to connect appliances, etc.

“Of course, making any move is challenging during a pandemic, but a senior move is particularly challenging,” said Rohlfing. “All BTI staff on a move will wear the proper masks, gloves and maintain social distance with the customers. As items are unpacked and placed, they will also be wiped.”

Adds Rohlfing, “We go to great lengths to ensure a safe move experience. That starts with virtual surveys to get an estimate to cleaning up after ourselves to conclude the move. With our new senior living division, we are well equipped to ensure a positive moving experience for our senior customers. And if the situation requires, we can provide an onsite consultation.”

In addition to its senior living division, BTI offers a wide range of relocations services for its residential and commercial customers. For complete information on BTI’s relocation services, please visit https://www.usamover.com/ or call 800-766-7724.

About Brookline Transportation, Inc. (BTI):
