SGS details Turkish draft amendment to revise its food contact plastic rules

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS detailing Turkey’s intention to revise its Food Codex Communiqué on food contact plastics.

The revised draft amendment implements two amendments to the European Union’s Regulation (EU) 10/2011 on food contact plastics. These are:
- Regulation (EU) 2020/1245 (amendment 15 to Regulation (EU) 10/2011) – changes include provisions relating to 1,3-phenylenediamine, (FCM no 236), antimony trioxide (FCM no 398), several authorized substances, primary aromatic amines (PAA), a table defining the specific migration limit (SML) of 19 substances and an additional five substances where their migrations are subject to certain conditions and requirements for repeated use articles
- Regulation (EU) 2023/1442 (amendment 16) – an important revision which, among other things, delists two substances, adds and replaces several authorized substances and provides new specifications for several phthalates

Turkey’s revised draft amendment was circulated by the World Trade Organization (WTO) on September 4, 2023, attached to WTO document number 23-5884 and notified under G/TBT/N/TUR/135/Add.1

Stakeholders should be aware the revised draft amendment contains two important dates:
- Date of entry into force = date of publication
- Date of applicability = January 1, 2026

Food contact plastics placed onto the market before January 1, 2026, but which do not comply with the amendment, can remain on the market until January 1, 2028.

The company's mobile hotspot technology guarantees a seamless internet experience, catering to the diverse clientele constantly on the move.

The company's mission is to ensure everyone has access to the internet, no matter where or how they live. Infinite LTE Data has partnered with a Mobile Virtual Network Operator to offer Virtual SIM technology to individuals outside of standard locales. This innovation permits them to connect to the 4G LTE antenna on any cellular tower the four major carriers utilize, allowing for high-speed WiFi internet as needed.

This system is especially advantageous for RVers or those residing in remote regions. Plans use v-sim technology, allowing the device to use multiple cellular companies for access. In return, customers can use networks belonging to Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.

Infinite LTE Data has also revolutionized how internet providers offer services to marine enthusiasts. The company's v-sim technology permits boat owners to stay connected far from shore. With this innovation, they can stream their favorite content, access social media accounts, or make crucial business calls while on the boat.

The company’s 4G LTE data plans and hotspot devices allow customers to connect up to 15 devices to the network. Plus, the data for monthly costs are a much better value than those from major cellular companies. Here's how Infinite LTE Data can help:

  • No Contracts: There are no annual contracts or hidden fees. Customers can cancel their plan at any time without penalty.
  • Poor Credit: The company's v-sim technology provides options for those with poor credit. This means anyone can enjoy high-speed internet without worrying about their credit score.

SGS Summarizes UK Government update to UKCA marking regulations

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS looking at the decision by the Government of the United Kingdom (UK) to indefinitely extend recognition of CE marking for most goods being placed onto markets in England, Scotland and Wales (Great Britain, GB).

The announcement by the UK Government means CE marking will be recognized beyond December 2024 in relation to:
- Toys
- Pyrotechnics
- Recreational craft and personal watercraft
- Electromagnetic compatibility
- Non-automatic weighing instruments
- Measuring instruments
- Measuring container bottles
- Lifts
- Equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (UKEX)
- Radio equipment
- Pressure equipment
- Simple pressure vessels
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Gas appliances
- Machinery
- Equipment for use outdoors
- Aerosols
- Low voltage electrical equipment

Government representatives at a recent gathering of the UK Approved Bodies Group for UKEX stated that while there is an ongoing proposition to modify the marking stipulation, there exists no immediate intention to eliminate other associated prerequisites concerning this equipment.

Stakeholders should be aware this means companies importing products from the EU are still required to have a designated UK importer and stipulations for UK declarations of conformity referencing UK designated standards remain unchanged.
