Paintings by Noted Indian Artists Pique Bidder Interest at Bruneau and Co Auction Held March 14th

The auction was conducted online and in Bruneau’s gallery at 63 Fourth Avenue in Cranston, R.I.

Cranston, RI, USA, March 20, 2020 -- Vibrant paintings by prominent Indian artists piqued the interest of bidders at Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers’ Estates Fine Art & Antiques auction held on March 14th, as an equestrian watercolor on paper by Maqbool Hussain (1915-2011) sold for $16,250 and a figural oil on canvas by B. Prabha (1933-2001) brought $11,875. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

The auction was held online and in the Bruneau & Co. gallery located at 63 Fourth Avenue in Cranston. “It was a phenomenal sale,” remarked company president Kevin Bruneau. “While the inhouse crowd was limited due to the virus pandemic, online and phone participation was more active than ever before. It was great to see the contemporary art perform as strongly as it did.”

The watercolor by Maqbool Hussain, titled Raging Horse, depicted a leaping white horse with its mouth open, draped with a green saddle blanket and carrying a flag with the image of a sun. The work was signed in Hindi in the lower right corner and had a sheet size of 22 inches by 30 inches, minus frame. Hussain is often referred to as the "Picasso of India."

The oil painting signed by B. Prabha, titled Woman with a Pear Basket, showed an Indian woman with her hair tied back and long limbs supporting a basket of fruit. The canvas was 22 inches by 16 inches. Prabha entered the art world when few Indian women were involved professionally, and worked on over 50 exhibitions, inside and outside of India.

The auction’s list of top earners was not limited to India. An Impressionist harbor etching by James Abbott McNeill Whistler (Mass./U.K/France,1834-1903), depicting sailing vessels out at sea, signed by the artist with a monogram in image and in pencil in the lower right margin, just 5 inches by 6 ¾ inches, rose to $8,750. Whistler painted Whistler’s Mother.

An Impressionist coastline seascape by the 19th century American artist Chas. Turner, depicting large waves crashing over a rocky coast with sailboats and seagulls in the background, changed hands for $8,125. The oil on canvas work, measuring 14 inches by 20 inches, less the frame, was artist signed and came out of a Pawtucket, R.I. collection.

A 19th century English School Realist rendering of a prize bull and heifer standing in a pasture, dated 1862, knocked down for $6,875. The animals were identified as “Ayrshire Lad” and “Miss Morton” within the image, which was 20 inches by 30 inches. The work was signed with a monogrammed “MW” and dated “July/62” in the lower left corner.

“What a thrill it was auctioneering the prize bull painting and Turner seascape,” said Travis Landry, a Bruneau & Co. specialist and auctioneer. “It’s always nice when there are a few splendid surprises. The market proved strong during uneasy times. It truly was a great day.”

Following are additional highlights from the auction. Internet bidding was facilitated by bidLIVE.Bruneauandco.com, LiveAuctioneers.com, Bidsquare.com and Invaluable.com, and the mobile app ‘Bruneau & Co.’ on iTunes and GooglePlay. All prices include the buyer’s premium.

A large Macchia art glass vase by the renowned American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly (b. 1941), organic folded form with earth tone brown and green splatter over a cream ground with yellow rim, 12 ¾ inches in height, went for $6,250. The vase was signed and dated "Chihuly 1982" on the bottom. Chihuly is well known for his extravagant glass sculptures displayed in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and at Chihuly Garden and Glass, Seattle.

A contemporary watercolor on paper portrait painting by Akbar Padamsee (Indian,1928-2020), depicting the face of a somber gentleman in soft sepia tones, commanded $6,250. The 22 inch by 15 inch (sheet) work was signed and dated "Padamsee 06" in the upper right corner. Padamsee was known for painting, film making, sculpture, photography and printmaking and is considered today to be one of the pioneers in modern Indian painting.

Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers has two auctions coming fast on the heels of this one. The first is an online-only camera extravaganza sale slated for Saturday, March 28th, with bidding on several platforms. 600-plus vintage camera lots will be sold to the highest bidder without reserve. An originally planned live-only pre-sale event will be rescheduled later as a stand-alone auction.

Then, on Saturday, April 4th, a Spring Comic Book & Toy Auction will be held, by Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers, Altered Reality Entertainment and Travis Landry, Bruneau & Co.’s Director of Pop Culture, starting at 11 am Eastern time, live in the gallery and online. Featured will be comic books and a great collection of tin key-wind, friction and battery-op Japanese robots and tin toys.

MAGCELL MICROCIRC Leads to Volume Reduction in Benign Prostate Hyperplasia BPH New Study

Therapeutic Use of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy Reduces Prostate Volume and Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. Andrology. 2020 Feb 23. Authors: Tenuta M, Tarsitano MG, Mazzotta P, Lucchini L, Sesti F, Fattorini G, Pozza C, Olivieri V, Naro F, Gianfrilli D, Lenzi A, Isidori AM, Pofi R.

Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom., March 20, 2020 -- The treatment (2 x 5 min. daily) resulted in a significant volume reduction of the prostate after only 28 days of therapy (V1) compared to the start of treatment (V0). That the therapy effect is sustainable is shown by the fact that even after 4 months (V2) there was a significantly reduced prostate volume compared to the start of treatment (V0). The survey on quality of life (IPSS questionnaire: urination/quality of life) also showed significantly better results at both points in time (V1 and V2) than V0. Overall, there was a rapid improvement in symptoms without changes in gonadal hormones or sexual function, with high compliance and without side effects.

Best results were achieved in moderate to severe symptoms (LUTS) and patients without metabolic syndrome (MetS).

Rare Graded Comic Books Comic Art Vintage Japanese Toys More at Bruneau and Cos Apr 4th Auction

The auction will be held online and in Bruneau & Co’s gallery at 63 Fourth Avenue in Cranston. Sold will be graded comic books, comic art, Japanese toys, robots, more.

Cranston, RI, March 21, 2020 -- Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers, in concert with Altered Reality Entertainment and Travis Landry, Bruneau & Co.’s Director of Pop Culture, will present a Spring Comic Book & Toy Auction on Saturday, April 4th, at 11 am Eastern time, online and in the Bruneau & Co. gallery at 63 Fourth Avenue in Cranston. More than 400 Pop Culture collectibles will be offered.

The auction is loaded with hundreds of graded rare comic books, generous key book lots, many Marvel and D.C. comics and a great collection of tin key wind, friction and battery-op Japanese robots and tin toys. Some nice original comic art will also come up for bid. The very first lot is a 1999 Nintendo Game Boy Pokémon yellow sealed video game graded CAS 90 (est. $500-$800).

“Our first comic and toy auction of the year is always an exciting one, and this catalog is certainly going to drive collectors wild,” Travis Landry said. “First Iron Man, first Groot, first Lizard, and first Red Hood – these are just some of the great keys we are offering.”

Mr. Landry added, “In addition to the great selection of comic books, toy collectors will be drooling for the collection of robots. Some are certainly the greatest examples to have come for sale in a long time. The Mirrorman and Zabitan from Akumaizer 3 are sure to attract attention.”

Kevin Bruneau, the president of Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers, said, “With spring comes the retro nostalgic vibe to Bruneau & Co. Pop Culture auctions are some of the most fun in the gallery. There is a fine selection of original comic artwork including a watercolor by Dan Green for the Marvel Comics graphic novel Doctor Strange: Into Shamballa. It is an absolute masterpiece.”

The Dan Green original artwork for the graphic novel Doctor Strange: Into Shamballa is a beautiful single panel featuring Dr. Strange in Shamballa, surrounded by wisps of red wind with surreal biomorphic faces towering over him. The circa 1986 watercolor, with an image size of 13 inches by 5 ¼ inches, less the frame, is the ultimate Dr. Strange collectible (est. $1,000-$1,500).

Rare graded comic books will be plentiful and will be led by a copy of Marvel Comics Tales of Suspense #39 from March 1963, featuring the origin and first appearance of Iron Man, graded CGC 4.5 (est. $4,000-$6,000); and a copy of Marvel Comics Amazing Spider-Man #6 from Nov. 1963, with the first appearance and origin of the Lizard, graded CBCS 8.0 (est. $2,000-$3,000).

Two highly desirable comic books have identical estimates of $1,500-$2,000. One is a copy of DC Comics Detective Comics #168 from Feb. 1951, featuring the first appearance of the Red Hood identity and origin of the Joker, graded CGC 2.0. The other is a copy of Marvel Comics Incredible Hulk #181 from Nov. 1974, featuring the first full appearance of Wolverine, CGC 7.0.

A Bullmark Mirrorman Ultraman tin lithograph toy in the box, made in Japan circa 1978, graded C8.5+ for both box and toy, is wonderfully preserved example for the serious collector and has a pre-sale estimate of $700-$1,000. The graphics are clean and vibrant, making for a beautiful display, and the toy boasts a strong structure and undertray, to go with bright glossy lithography.

A Japanese Yoshiya Chief Robotman battery-op tin toy in the box, made in Japan around 1955, is expected to change hands for $600-$900. The toy is graded C8+, with minimal signs of wear, bright chrome and near-mint paint, with minimal light scattered scratching. It was tested and is working. The box is graded C7+ and shows vibrant graphics, despite some edge and end wear.

Online bidding will be offered by LiveAuctioneers.com, Invaluable.com, Bidsquare.com and bidLIVE.Bruneauandco.com, plus the mobile app “Bruneau & Co.” on iTunes or GooglePlay. Phone and absentee bids will also be accepted. To bid by phone, the number is 401-533-9980.
