The updated Guidelines for the Flammability Requirements of the Children’s Sleepwear Regulations, published in November 2025, outline safety requirements for children’s sleepwear in sizes up to and including 14X, including bathrobes, sleepers and nightgowns, which are manufactured, imported, advertised or sold in Canada.

The revisions in the guidelines are primarily administrative and editorial, emphasizing clearer formatting, updating references and improving advice to support industry compliance.

Included in the 2025 Guidelines are the following modifications:
- References to documents and standards have been refreshed to their latest versions
- Overall format and style have been modernized to enhance readability and clarity
- Images, diagrams and technical drawings have been updated or replaced with contemporary versions

Health Canada continues to classify children’s sleepwear as a high-priority category under the CCPSA, with non-compliant products potentially still subject to enforcement actions or penalties.

Baar (January 6, 2025) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 192.25 to inform stakeholders about the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) direct final rule updating the federal safety standard for bassinets and cradles.

On December 12, 2025, the CPSC published a direct final rule amending 16 CFR 1218 to incorporate ASTM F2194-25, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Bassinets and Cradles, without modification. The rule will become effective on February 21, 2026, provided the CPSC does not receive significant adverse comments by January 12, 2026.

ASTM F2194-25 introduces updates, including new definitions, an expanded scope to cover aftermarket mattresses and revised performance requirements related to height, stability, rigidity and the safety of electrically and battery-operated products. The updated standard also strengthens warning and instructional requirements and includes clarifications and editorial revisions that do not affect substantive safety provisions.

The CPSC considers the updated ASTM standard to enhance the safety of bassinets and cradles supplied to the US market.
