SGS expands global network of ZDHC Foundation approved softlines laboratories

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is delighted to announce that its softlines laboratories in Hong Kong and Istanbul have been approved by the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation to operate as ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) certification bodies for conformance to Levels 1, 2 and 3 of MRSL V3.1.

The number of SGS’s ZDHC approved facilities has now reached eight following the recent upgrade of laboratories in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kaohsiung, Chennai, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong. SGS is now the only ZDHC Foundation recognized company operating in Kaohsiung, Chennai, Hai Phong and Hong Kong approved to Levels 1, 2 and 3.

With a focus on supporting the fashion industry to reach its zero discharge goals, the announcement supports SGS’s long-term strategy to expand its global sustainability service capabilities. SGS Chemical MRSL 3.0 conformance certification, enables manufacturers and brands to demonstrate their commitment to zero discharge in complex supply chains.

The ZDHC Foundation, an industry-led collaboration committed to eliminating hazardous chemicals from textile and footwear supply chains, published its first MRSL in 2014. The companion document, MRSL Conformance Guidance, followed in 2017. MRSL provides brands and suppliers with a single, harmonized list of chemical substances that are banned from intentional use during manufacturing and related processes. In November 2022, V3.0 of the MRSL and V2.0 of the MRSL Conformance Guidance were released by the ZDHC Foundation; MRSL V3.1 was published in March 2023.

SGS Chemical MRSL 3.0 conformance certification
SGS offers a simple and effective process for verifying the compliance of supplied chemical formulations with the criteria for ZDHC MRSL Levels 1, 2 or 3 through laboratory testing, document review and on-site assessment.

SGS Looks at a Proposed PFAS Prevention Model Legislation from NEWMOA

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS detailing a proposed model legislation to regulate per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in consumer products issued by the Northeast Waste Management Officials’ Association (NEWMOA).

PFAS are defined in the draft legislation as, “all members of the class of fluorinated organic chemicals containing at least one fully fluorinated carbon atom.” This is in alignment with other US state regulations.

It is hoped the draft legislation will help jurisdictions develop a more consistent approach to PFAS and PFAS-containing products. Following the concept of the toxics in packaging, US states would be able to adopt the model, making it legally binding under their jurisdiction and setting in place notification and prohibition requirements.

SGS has published SafeGuardS 059.23 to give stakeholders a better understanding of the draft model legislation. The SafeGuardS includes a table detailing the notification and prohibition requirements and their effective dates.

To learn more about the draft model legislation and how it might affect businesses, stakeholders should now review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 059.23.

Frankys Excavation Digs Deep To Expand With New Project Pipeline

Tacoma, WA – Demand for excavation expertise is fueling major expansion for Franky's Excavation as it handles more projects in the greater Tacoma region.

The family-owned and operated firm has announced plans to expand its team and fleet of specialized equipment to cope with the boom in business in 2023.

Company owner David Frankov said the business is well-regarded as being a one-stop shop for land clearing, demolition for houses, garages, sheds, and barns, concrete removal, land leveling and grading, stump removals, foundation digging, gravel driveways, trenching, and sod removal.

He acknowledged: "We have many years of experience providing quality work for our clients. As we are now facing extra demand, we plan to increase our team and fleet to cope with more local and regional projects."

Licensed, bonded and insured, Franky's Excavation utilizes the most modern and state-of-the-art technology to get a job done efficiently with minimum impact on the client. "Our reputation for going the extra mile and exceeding clients' expectations is built on doing the job right, first time, every time," he confirmed.

Among its specialisms is land clearing. Their team is highly geared to preparing land for a client's plans. They can clear land quickly and responsibly with the right equipment and know-how.

They also carry out excavation works, from earth moving to grading, to help shape the landscape and handle demolition works with careful planning and precision.

Regarding concrete removal, such as renovating or demolishing old structures, replacing old driveways or patios, and clearing land for new construction, Franky's Excavation has the machinery to break the material down and safely dispose of the debris.

Land leveling and grading are crucial land preparation processes in construction, landscaping, and farming. These involve adjusting the slope and elevation of a piece of land to create a more uniform or suitable surface.

They are also experts in foundation digging and trenching for utilities or irrigation, can design and install gravel driveways, and remove old sod ready for landscaping or new construction.
